About

Lil' Scholars is a summer-based education program with the hopes of growing into a year-round academic support for elementary students in under-resourced communities. The program started out of a desire to curb the violence that Black youth experience in Chicago.

Succeeding in school is a violence prevention tactic.

Currently we are partnered with the South Side YMCA (6330 S Stony Island Ave) and our tutoring is embedded into the summer programming of the YMCA. We work with students ages 6-9 providing tutoring in small groups to work on literacy and math.

Our hope is to bring students up to grade level so they are not left behind.

The size of our tutoring groups are intentional -- because the groups we tutor in are so small, students get one-on-one attention and individual support with their learning. We work to grow a love of learning and achievement. We believe learning should be fun and exciting -- not stationary and boring.

For Summer 2024, we will be providing tutoring from June 10th-August 9th. If you are interested in volunteering for the summer, use this link
